HE ENTRY OF THE BOYARS

In 1893, the Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen, who had just been appointed as musical director at the theatre Den Nationale Scene in Bergen, received an offer. An offer to become professor at the Conservatory of Music in Bucharest, and head of a quartet. The pay was three times as high as the one he had just accepted in Bergen. He was intrigued and flattered. He eventually turned down the offer, but not before having found out more about this far, but still European, country. What he found out inspired him to write a march, The Entry of the Boyars, which has become one of the most beloved and popular pieces of Norwegian classical music. This story is used as a point of departure for a survey of Romanian history in the 1800, a time when society and private life underwent thorough changes. To quote the writer Radu Rosetti, I do not think that there is any other country in which all public and private life changed so rapidly and thoroughly as with us, and even more all traces of a past so relatively recent disappeared some completely and quickly as by us.

O ofertă de a deveni profesor la Conservatorul de Muzică din Bucure?ti ?i conducător al unui cvartet. Salariul era de trei ori mai mare decât cel pe care tocmai ce-l acceptase la Bergen. A fost surprins ?i flatat. A respins în cel din urmă propunerea, dar nu înainte de a afla informa?ii suplimentare despre această ?ară îndepărtată, dar totu?i europeană. Ceea ce a aflat a servit ca sursă de inspira?ie pentru scrierea unui mar?, Intrarea boierilor, care a devenit una dintre cele mai iubite ?i mai populare piese de muzică clasică norvegiană. Această poveste este folosită ca punct de plecare al unui studiu asupra istoriei române?ti în anii 1800, perioadă în care societatea ?i via?a privată au traversat schimbări substan?iale. Pentru a-l cita pe scriitorul Radu Rosetti, Nu cred să fie altă țară în care toată viața publică și privată să se fi schimbat mai repede și mai desăvârșit decât la noi și mai ales în care orice urmă a unui trecut, relativ foarte apropiat, să se fi stins atât de complet și de repede ca la noi.

INTENSIVE LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE SUMMER COURSE
Starting: in groups: from 1st to 13th of August. Individually courses are held all summer.
Duration of the course: The Course runs for 4-6 academic hours per day, with Language practice for 44 hours and Lithuanian history, literature and ethnology for 6 hours.
Languages of instruction: English, Russian, French, Italian, Lithuanian.
Place: in the center of Vilnius Gediminas ave. 26.
Certification: students will receive a Lithuanian language Summer Course Certificate.
Separate groups for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students are planned.
During the courses various cultural program are planned: excursions in Lithuania, degustation of traditional Lithuanian dishes, ethno cultural events, visiting some museums, creative workshops with famous Lithuanian artists.

Time: 1-12 of August, in groups. All summer indivual courses takes place.
Starting: in group on August 1-12. Individual courses are held all summer.
Duration: 20 acad. hours (10 days, 2 acad. hours per day).
Explaining languages: English, Russian, Lithuanian.
Place: Gediminas ave. 26, Vilnius.
Certificate: at the end of the course every participant will get the LINGUA LITUANICA certificate.
Classes take place in small groups.
On Saturdays it is possible to go to excursions with parents.
